7 to 8 foot patio umbrellas typically make a nice cover for dining sets with tables approximately 36 inches in diameter with 4 to 6 chairs surrounding it. This size it also a great option to provide shade around pool areas and on decks and patios. This size umbrella tends to still be fairly easy to handle by one person, because they tend to weigh less than their larger counterparts and tend to be easier to move and lift. But, since moving any umbrella can be a bit awkward, more hands tend to make it much easier.
It is also important to understand the importance of the umbrella base. Outdoor umbrellas of in this category have a range of requirements in base sizes. If it will be placed through a table, a 30 lb base can be used for a 7 foot umbrella. If it will be a freestanding umbrella you will need to use at least a 50 lb. base to ensure that will not blow over with a sudden gust of wind. For an 8 foot outdoor umbrella you would need a 50 lb. base and at least a 75 pound stand for a freestanding aluminum umbrella. Remember, these are minimum base requirements and the heavier the base, the more stable your umbrella will be.
